Alice Morey

Having taste means that every detail of your life is selected with an overall style in view, from the colour of towels and soap to the choice of flowers for a room: from the letter box to the glass for the gin and tonic, from the floor matt to the shape and colour of the lampshade hanging on the mantle piece. Even passed the wind chimes and the mirrors right through to the garden. With plastic tables and chairs, an umbrella and china plant pots. It is the way people set their dining tables, hang their pictures, have their curtains made, and arrange their drink tables that interest me. The uses people have for ordinary objects, mainly used for the décor of the home and the familiarity with the things I collect is want I am aiming for. It's how I group my finds and purchases together in a world of its own. How I draw them, animate them and how I connect then to the paintings that make them interesting in a space. Especially this particular space I have chosen. I have become very interested in interior design and formulating my own creative language in a space, the extravagance and absurdity of design. I have developed a poetic way of working, yet very systematic.

Waking up everyday to a swamp of fake flowers, jars, empty milk bottles, fruit wrappers sprawled all over the floor, a fireplace with a hundred and three fruit stickers and empty pickled onion jars. The magical presence they have to me. Theyhave become my style and language. All four of these paintings have developed in time and are from the shapes and forms I obsess over.
