John Field
Through his exploration of the painting process, John Field does not literally represent the external world, but focuses instead on exploring painterly qualities such as colour, form, physicality and energy.
Colour is the most important part of Field’s work. By using carefully selected bright and dark colours to direct the viewer’s gaze and combining them with bold marks and forms, Field creates energetic and striking compositions.
Field is inspired by British abstract artists such as Albert Irvin and Gillian Ayres as well as younger contemporary artists such as Katharina Grosse.
